On 16 September, the pupils of class 8e4 had the opportunity to engage with literature outside the classroom. Young adult author Beate Dölling read from her novel ‘Lügenbeichte’ (Confession of Lies) in the auditorium. She then talked about her work as an author and gave many insights into her working methods. The pupils had the opportunity to ask the author lots of questions. How long does it take to write a 300-page young adult novel? Which books sell well, and which ones less so? How do you develop ideas for exciting young adult novels? The 8e4 class learned, among other things, that a simple little newspaper article had inspired Beate Dölling to write the book ‘Lügenbeichte’.

In the second part of the event, Beate Dölling encouraged the 8e4 class to engage in creative writing more often. In a simple exercise, she had the pupils write a description that had to take various content-related prompts into account. ‘Good texts are written fluently and evoke precise images in the minds of readers,’ was one pupil's conclusion.
