On Thursday, February 20, 2025, the Schiller Bundestag Election took place in the auditorium of Schiller Gymnasium. This simulation of the federal election, based on the concept of the Junior Election (Juniorwahl), allowed all students from grades 7 to 12 to cast their votes and experience the democratic election process first hand.
Throughout the school day, classes and courses visited the auditorium for about 15 minutes to participate in the election.
The election results provide a fascinating insight into the opinions of our students. While some outcomes align with nationwide trends, there are also significant differences. Notably, Die Linke performed exceptionally well, receiving nearly 35% of the second votes.
Simulating elections in schools is a crucial contribution to political education. It not only teaches students the fundamental procedures of democratic elections but also highlights the importance of political participation. By casting their votes, students engage with political parties, programs, and current societal debates in advance.
We would like to thank the Politics Working Group (AG Politik) for organizing the election!
