German civil law guarantees: “Children have a right to non-violent child-rearing. Physical punishments, psychological injuries and other degrading measures are inadmissible.” (1631 Abs. 2 BGB)
Our primary goal is to ensure that students’ rights are respected, and that students know that these rights exist. Beyond this, our goal is that students feel comfortable and relaxed at school such that a culture of trust flourishes, in which every student will articulate any fears they have and avail themselves to helpful action.
These aims and duties of child protection are shared by everyone at the school. However, these aims and duties are the particular concern of the working group “Child Protection” which works together with the school leadership. The working group consists of students, parents, social workers and teachers. It is facilitated by Mr Howard.
The document (in German) “Psychological, physical and sexual violence in the school context” gives an overview of answers to What is violence?
