Our bilingual class is for students who are particularly interested in learning English and would like to immerse themselves in the language even when they are learning other subjects. 

Aims 

By establishing a bilingual stream starting in grade 7, we are responding to the educational challenges of our time and helping to shape the educational landscape of our multicultural city. The bilingual stream is intended to serve as a bridge between the SESB dual language stream and the regular stream, taught in German.  

Learning and Teaching: Middle School

The bilingual stream has a modified timetable. In grade 7, students have an increased number of English lessons, and from grade 8 onwards, biology is taught in English, as is geography from grade 9 onwards. In addition to the adapted timetable, we offer extra-curricular activities in English such as “Debating” and “Model United Nations (MUN)” as well as the bilingual elective course “Global Politics - Global History” in grade 10. It is possible to switch between the SESB stream, bilingual stream and regular stream, provided that the performance requirements (passing the SESB language test) are met and there is sufficient capacity.

Learning and Teaching: Upper school

In the upper school, the advanced course in English is compulsory, and biology is the 3rd/4th examination subject or reference subject of the 5th PK (see AV bilingualer Unterricht, No. 5, para. 8). After successfully completing their school career, students receive a special certificate confirming their attendance of the bilingual program in addition to their Abitur (equivalent to A levels or high school diploma).
