In 2025, the German-Polish student exchange between Schiller-Gymnasium Berlin and Liceum Ogólnokształcące nr IV in Wrocław took place for the third time. As part of the Erasmus+ programme, participating students from both schools had the opportunity to explore European history, political education, and societal issues—while discovering new cultures and perspectives.

Visit to Wrocław – March 2025
From March 17 to 21, a group of students from Berlin visited Wrocław. Their stay began with an exploration of the city’s role in the resistance against the communist regime during the 1980s, as presented at the Depot Wrocław. In workshops, the students worked on topics such as underground movements and the secret distribution of banned materials.

In the afternoon, integration workshops addressed issues like stereotypes and discrimination. Another session focused on disinformation and fake news. A visit to the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) offered deeper insight into surveillance practices and how Poland confronts its communist past.

Visit in Berlin – May 2025
From May 19 to 23, the Polish group visited Berlin. Their programme started with Erlebnis Europa, an interactive exhibition on the European Union in the city center.
The students then embarked on a discovery tour through different Berlin neighborhoods, researching and documenting Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) while learning about the fates of Holocaust victims. In Potsdam, the group visited the former Stasi remand prison in Lindenstraße, where they had a moving conversation with contemporary witness Thomas Drescher.
A photo workshop at the Berlin Wall Memorial helped students better understand the history of divided Berlin. The exchange concluded with a visit to the Jewish Museum Berlin, where students explored archival material and traced the lives of Jewish families with connections to Wrocław.
This exchange was a meaningful and enriching experience for all participants. In addition to exploring historical and contemporary topics, the programme fostered personal connections and intercultural understanding.
We look forward to continue our exchange in the upcoming school year in 2025-2026.
The project was funded by the European Union as part of the Erasmus+ program.
