Wear It Purple Day: Schiller Shows Solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ Community

Purple t-shirts, sweatshirts, socks, and nail polish: On Friday, August 27th, purple was everywhere! As part of the international Wear It Purple Day, allies and members of the LGBTQIA+ Community at Schiller wore purple to show their solidarity and support.

The event was organized by the Schiller Diversity Club and is meant to visibly demonstrate acceptance and support for the Queer community. Students of all grades wore purple, and members of the Diversity Club also decorated two school doors in purple, emphasizing the metaphor of doors for one’s personal development. During the breaks, the Diversity Club passed out homemade purple baked good and purple bracelets.

Wear It Purple Day was first established in Australia in 2010. Its goal is to help create supportive, safe, empowering, and inclusive environments for rainbow youths. The event seeks to counteract discrimination, exclusion, violence, and self-harm.
