The Informationstechnische Grundkurs is offered in the 7th grade as a split class with one perriod per week. Building on knowledge from primary school, this course provides students with the skills needed to use computers for academic work and for home assignments—ranging from writing reports to preparing presentations for the intermediate school-leaving certificate. Part of the course focuses on using standard software, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation tools. The course uses Lernraum-Berlin as learning platform.
Additionally, topics such as data protection and copyright are explored as examples—areas that are rarely covered outside of optional computer science courses. Conduct on social networks is also part of the curriculum.
The ITG course is closely coordinated with other subjects, especially mathematics, German, and biology. The SESB course is taught in English.
