As of the 2023/24 school year, the previous examination formats for obtaining Mittleren Schulabschluss at Gymnasium have been abolished. It is now the case that at Gymnasium (grammar schools), the Mittlere Schulabschluss is achieved by passing year 10. At Sekundar- und Gemeinschaftsschulen (secondary and community schools), the examinations in the main subjects and the group presentation examination in a freely selectable subject will continue to apply.
You can read the detailed conditions for obtaining the MSA, even if your child do not pass the year 10, online on the website of the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family: https://www.berlin.de/sen/bildung/schule/pruefungen-und-abschluesse/abschluesse-am-gymnasium-nach-klasse-9-und-10/
From the 2024/25 school year, a new task in the form of a presentation examination, mediengestützte Projektarbeit, or mPA for short, will apply at the Gymnasium. In the Abitur, this competence is primarily required as part of the 5th Prüfungskomponente, which is why the mPA is a useful preparation for the special examination format in the Abitur. The media-based project work in year 10 will be included in the overall grade for the year as a partial performance in one subject. Pupils will be informed about the implementation at Schiller-Gymnasium.
