Do you always have to tell the truth? Does everyone have a conscience?
What is responsibility? Where does violence begin? What is justice?
As a sub-discipline of philosophy, ethics is a science with a long tradition. Like other social science subjects, ethics is taught for two hours a week and is relevant for promotion. All pupils at secondary level I (years 7-10) take part in ethics lessons, regardless of their ideological or religious beliefs.
The subject understands itself as ideologically neutral, developing reason and empathy, promoting the ability to engage in dialogue and the learning of various ethical perspectives. The topics are wide-ranging and leave room to respond to pupils' questions and concerns. The question of the good and successful life, both individually and collectively, underpins the subject.
Each topic is approached from three perspectives:
Individual perspective - What does the lesson topic mean for your own life?
Societal perspective - What does the subject matter mean for social coexistence?
Perspective of the history of ideas - What bearing do religious, ideological and cultural-historical ideas have on the topic for us?
