20 Years of the SESB

On the 27th of September, 2012, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the SESB. It all began in 1992, with the founding of the first Europe schools at primary level offering German combined with English, French or Russian. The programme has been a great success and has expanded considerably. Today more than 6000 Berlin pupils are studying in nine language combinations (German and Italian, French, Spanish, Polish, Greek, Turkish, Portuguese, Russian and English) at 17 primary schools and 13 secondary schools.

The anniversary celebration took place at the Russisches Haus in Friedrichstraße. The morning programme focused on the elementary schools. In the afternoon, 50 students from all levels at Schiller joined groups from the 13 other SESB secondary schools. A varied programme of theatre, song, dance, poetry, games and competitions, created by the pupils, celebrated our diversity and our unity as the State European School Berlin.

The Schiller pupils contributed short, snappy dramatic scenes from Shakespeare and their own version of ‘The Big Challenge’ in English.  Check out the articles by Elena and Carolina (Leistungskurs Englisch) here!
