2024-25 has been another active year for MUN at Schiller. Students from the middle-school club (MUN AG) and from the upper school elective (Zusatzkurs) participated in 3 conferences, BerMUN, BerMUN 2 and BalMUN as well as having regular lively debates on Tuesday afternoons. Here you can read extracts from the participants’ reports from the different conferences:
‘Schiller-Gymnasium students successfully participated in the twentieth edition of the BerMUN2 Model United Nations conference, hosted annually by the John F. Kennedy School at the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in late February. This year’s overarching theme, “Fighting Inequality,” encouraged delegates to explore various social, economic, and
political disparities worldwide.

Representing Myanmar, the Schiller-Gymnasium delegates took part in two key committees:
- International Labour Organization (ILO) – focusing on “Improving Universal Minimum Labor Standards and Their Implementation.” Discussions revolved around enforcing labor laws, corporate responsibility, and the role of international cooperation in ensuring fair working conditions.
- Disarmament Committee (DC) – addressing “Ethnic Inequalities in Post-Conflict Zones.” Delegates examined ways to promote reconciliation, equitable resource distribution, and long-term peacebuilding efforts in war-torn regions.
The conference began with an engaging opening ceremony, where Schiller-Gymnasium’s ambassador, representing Myanmar, delivered a compelling speech that set the tone for the days ahead. BerMUN2 welcomed not only schools from Berlin but also international institutions, such as the American International School of Johannesburg, whose delegation traveled over 24 hours to attend, showcasing the event’s global significance. Their presence added an unmistakable touch of internationality and world-class diplomacy to the proceedings, further cementing the conference’s reputation as a platform for global discourse.

Throughout the three-day conference, delegates engaged in rigorous debates, negotiations, and resolution drafting, all aimed at addressing key global challenges. The collaborative and diplomatic spirit of the event ensured that all committees successfully passed resolutions or reached agreements on their respective topics. For the Schiller-Gymnasium delegates, BerMUN2 was a valuable experience, providing deeper insight into international relations, public speaking, and diplomatic negotiation.’ Lucas
‘From 23-25 May 2025, I participated in the BALMUN conference at the Innerstädtisches Gymnasium in Rostock. The conference's overarching theme was education, while the individual committees discussed the important role of education in combating climate change, furthering disarmament, and reversing the effects of colonisation. In my committee, the Environment Assembly, I took the role of Vietnam and discussed the possibilities of improving the quality and availability of environmental education, as well as the effects of marine and water pollution on food security, particularly in developing countries. The debates were often heated, as global powers like Russia and China clashed on some fundamental issues. However we also managed to master the art of compromise, passing a total of 3 out of the 4 proposed resolutions from our committee. To round this amazing experience off, we had a fun time at the BALMUN dance on the night of the second day of the conference, where almost all the delegates came together to socialise and party. Overall, attending this conference was an extraordinarily fun time and I would recommend going to any MUN conference if given the possibility.’ Konrad
