Wahlpflichtunterricht covers different content than the normal subjects with the same name. They allow students to deepen their knowledge of the respective subject. Class tests must be completed in all Wahlpflichtkurrsen and the report mark is relevant for promotion.
A 3rd foreign language can only be chosen from the beginning of year 8. Year 8 is therefore the last opportunity to learn a new foreign language at Schiller-Gymnasium.

In Year 7, the following options are offered for Years 8 and 9, one of which must be chosen.

All students take two Wahlpflichtkurse from year 10 onwards.
The following range of subjects or subject combinations is freely selectable:

The 3rd foreign language (Italian, Latin) can be continued in year 10. In this case, Italian or Latin must have been taken in years 8 and 9.
Computer science is also offered in year 10. Participation in Computer Science in year 9 is a condition for continuing Computer Science in year 10 and possibly taking it as a 3rd or 4th examination subject later in the Abitur. It is possible to start computer science in year 11 regardless of the Wahlpflichtkurse taken in years 8, 9 and 10.
Participation in these selected courses is not a prerequisite for the selection of corresponding advanced or basic courses in the upper secondary school. The only exceptions to this are the Italian and Latin courses, which must be taken throughout in order to include them as Grundkurse in the Qualifikationsphase in years 11 and 12.
In addition, the range of lessons in year 10 is extended by a Vorkurs in “Theatre (Darstellendes Spiel)”. For students who would like to take Performing Arts in the qualification phase, we offer a Vorkurs in Performing Arts (90 minutes per week) in addition to the lessons offered in year 10.
