The Department of Social Sciences at Schiller-Gymnasium has a long-standing and comprehensive cooperation with the House of the Wannsee Conference Memorial. Since the first collaboration between the department and the memorial took place in 2010, the cooperation has increasingly intensified in recent years and was confirmed with the signing of a declaration of cooperation between the two institutions at a commemorative event on 9 November 2018.
The cooperation with the House of the Wannsee Conference Memorial Centre takes place on various levels.
Part of the cooperation involves regular study trips for pupils and teachers to Israel and to central sites of the Shoah in Eastern and Western Europe (including Poland, Ukraine and Italy), which are facilitated and accompanied by the memorial centre.
The previous trips were dedicated to remembering and commemorating the victims of the mass murders for which the Nazi regime was responsible during the Second World War and made it possible to discuss current issues of cultural identity formation in this context. Israeli, Russian and Spanish teacher delegations have also visited Schiller-Gymnasium in the past and were supervised by the Department of Social Sciences.
The jointly organised events with the memorial also include regular commemorative events and discussions with contemporary witnesses, e.g. with Anita Lasker-Wallfisch and her daughter Maya Jacobs Wallfisch (2018), with representatives of Colonia Dignidad from Chile (2018) and Auschwitz survivor Eva Fahidi (2020).
The Department of Social Sciences also regularly benefits from the educational programmes offered by the memorial by providing further training for teachers and supervising exhibition visits with school groups.
